Highlights of 2015!

For some today may be a sad day; for some, today may be a day much awaited for and, for some, today may be a day like any other.
It's nearly at its end: 2015 has come to a close.
Personally, I see 31st December of each year as a day to reflect on what has happened over the year; whether that be places that I've visited, days that I have put behind me or food that looked so good it was worth taking a picture of. Here is a round-up of my highlights of 2015:

Attraction of the Year:
The Sky Garden, 20 Fenchurch Street, London

Found right at the top of the "Walkie Talkie" building in London, The Sky Garden offers a restaurant, bar and cafe with some of the best views of London. The first thing about this place? It's free to enter, as long as you book in advance.

Restaurant of the Year:
Brasserie Zedel, Piccadilly Circus

Hidden away at the corner of Piccadilly Circus, this brasserie oozes class and sophistication, whilst serving truly delicious French meals. It's also very affordable, with its set menu perfect for pre-theatre dining.

Theatre Production of the Year:
Bend It Like Beckham, Phoenix Theatre, London

Remember that film that came out in 2002, featuring a young Kiera Knightley, about the girl who was mesmerised by David Beckham? Yep, Bend It Like Beckham: The Musical is actually a thing and came to the West End in May this year. Featuring a whirlwind of colour, culture and- er- football, you cannot help but be enchanted by this production.

Celebrity Outfit of the Year:
Taylor Swift, The Grammys

Taylor dressed in Elie Saab at The Grammys 2015 is certainly an outfit that will go down in history. The bold, shimmering turquoise of the dress paired with a contrasting pink in her heels works outstandingly.

Film of the Year:
Star Wars: The Force Awakens

A very hard decision to make, but my best film was Star Wars. The hype surrounding the film was enormous, so I had very high expectations- and this film did not disappoint. Instead, I've managed to gain a conversation topic that can be used with many, many different people. A very close call between this and "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2", which concluded one of my favourite series in the most poignant of ways.

Surprise of the Year:
Justin Bieber's new album being an absolute banger.

"What Do You Mean?" "Where are U Now?" "Sorry". Whilst that may just sound like I'm conversing with myself, those are in fact the names of three of his smash singles.

The trickiest round-up of them all: the best day of 2015. Although it may come as a surprise, having not been my attraction of the year, this place was a day out I genuinely will not forget...

Best Day of the Year:
Warner Bros. Harry Potter Studio Tour, Leavesden

This attraction has been around for a good few years now, but I only got round to visiting earlier this month for my 18th birthday. Whilst not actually visited on my birthday- two days before- I can't think of a more "me" thing to do than visit the studio where Harry Potter was filmed. Visit it NOW.

Happy New Year!

Work experience at the Press Association

After being accepted for a work placement back in November, on Monday 25th June the time had finally arrived to get the train to Victoria for the start of my placement at Press Association. I was to work in the Features department, which covers everything from food to health to travel. I arrived early for my placement on the first day, where I met Ella Walker, the Acting Features Editor. After a quick tour of the office, I immediately got started on the first commission of my placement, an article for BT Lifestyle on fears of dog flu becoming a pandemic, with a deadline set for before lunchtime. I used multiple sources to research and verify the medical information behind dog flu, and gave the topic context by giving a brief summary of the impact of swine flu. As I researched using specialist websites, I took extra care to make sure that I explained the disease in a clear yet informative way. Once the article was submitted, I headed off to lunch and found the Cardinal Place rooftop ...

Is this real life- or is this just fantasy?

Admittedly, I have never considered myself a fantasy type of person. Except for my slight obsession with Harry Potter, little of the literature I read, the films I watch and the TV series I follow falls under the fantasy genre.   Until recently, that is.   One month ago, I finally got round to watching 'The Lord of the Rings'. It took fifteen years after the first movie came out for me even to consider watching it. It's long. It's got elves in it. Why would I want to watch it?  Now, I know that there are many reasons why I would want to watch it. Full to the brim with action, the scenery is breathtaking, the antagonists are perfectly abhorrent and Orlando Bloom makes one lovable elf. Frankly, it's got everything I could wish for in a movie- with the addition of Gollum and a couple-thousand Orcs. I liked the first movie so much that, within the week, I'd watched all 10 hours of the trilogy. 'Two Towers' is now in my top 10 all-time favourite films. ...

This Could Be the Start of Something New...

Yes, that is a reference to High School Musical and, yes, I am still referencing High School Musical eight years after it came out... But, like Troy met Gabriella, I have just met someone knew: you! So, to introduce myself... Firstly, my name is Florrie. Yep, just Florrie; not Florence, not Florian (I have been called that before), just Florrie. A few weeks ago, dismayed at the fact I'd still never met someone else called Florrie, I googled the history of the name. And, what did I learn? I learnt that the name 'Florrie' peaked in popularity in the 1890s. My name is ancient. Moving on from my name, I should probably talk about my likes to prepare you for what is to come on this blog. My likes include... Dogs Since a very young age, I havebeen a huge admirer of the canine-kind. Whether they're tall or small, curly or straight, the odds of me wanting to take home a dog are pretty high (with the exception of the dogs that take a disliking to my dog, obviously). Four...
