The Best of the BRITs!

As always, I am unbelievably excited for Britain's biggest music awards- the BRITs. Every year, I wait in anticipation to find out which artists have been nominated for an award and who is performing on the stage. Something that makes this year even more exciting (for me, anyway) is the fact that I am GOING to the BRIT Awards! No, no, I wasn't invited (though I will forever hope to be), but I received a pair of tickets to the awards for Christmas- eeek! So, this Wednesday, I am heading to The O2, London to watch performances from the likes of Justin Bieber, Adele and, my utmost favourites, Coldplay. Over the years, the BRITs have played host to many wonderfully wacky performances from a variety of artists. These are my particular highlights from the past ten years... Er, okay, so I may be slightly biased as a lifelong "Alouder" but Girls Aloud were the centre of the glitz and glamour of the awards show back in 2009, when they performed "The Promise" with ...

"I Cry When I Laugh" - Jess Glynne - Album Review

Not many artists can say that they've had five number ones before releasing their debut album but one 25-year-old can. Known for featuring in the song of 2014 ‘Rather Be’, Jess Glynne has come a long way since her rejection from The X-Factor ten years ago. Her album, ‘I Cry When I Laugh’, retains the dance vibes she has become renowned for from her singles, but also experiments with softer sounds, notably on album track ‘Take Me Home’. Citing her influences to include Amy Winehouse, Aretha Franklin and Frank Ocean, the album diverts away from the typical pop regime, with elements of R&B featuring in the tracks. For the album, the London girl palled up with fellow British artist Emeli San d é  t o collaborate on “Saddest Vanilla”- an appropriate name choice for a song so lackadaisical. Despite the docile pace of the song, this track stands out- for all the wrong reasons. I can appreciate the fact that Glynne wanted a mix of tempos on the album but the dreary track merely ...

So, Little Mix: Glasses are Only for Geeks?

Whilst flicking through music channels on the TV the other day, I came across a video that I had not seen before by Little Mix. The video was of their latest single, 'Black Magic', which is their first taken from their forthcoming album, 'Get Weird'. The song itself is one of those 'mehh' tunes: not one of those tunes that makes you want to grab the radio (or TV, in this case) and hammer against a wall until the machine is entirely dysfunctional, but not one that you just cannot resist whacking on full volume and belting out the lyrics to when you're in the car. However, what really caught my attention was the characterisation in the video. 'Black Magic' is based at a college. Perrie, Leigh-anne, Jade and Jesy are the college's 'uncool' girls. In fact, they're so uncool that two of the clan are glasses-wearers. Stumbling (literally) out of the school entrance, the girls are wearing some shocking outfits as, obviously, every girl w...

BRIT Awards 2015: Who's Going to Win?

This week could be titled The Week of The Awards after it began with the Oscars on Sunday The Brits are coming- or already have arrived, following Eddie Redmayne's win for Best Actor after playing Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything in Hollywood's Dolby Theatre. Tomorrow, some of the world's biggest artists, including Taylor Swift (eeek!) and Ed Sheeran, will be performing on the stage at The O2, London, but who's going to win big at The Brits? British Male Solo Artist Damon Albarn Ed Sheeran George Ezra Paolo Nutini Sam Smith After grabbing not one, not two, but FOUR nominations at The BRITs, it could be argued that Sam Smith is surely the only winner for the award. However, my vote would go to Ed Sheeran for Best Male Solo Artist, after his second album, 'X' overtook Coldplay's 'Ghost Stories' to become the UK's fastest-selling album of 2014 and then became the UK's best-selling album of the same year, selling 1.2 m...

Happy New Year!

Who has set themselves a New Year's resolution or have something you wish to do this year?  In the past, I have never been too good at setting myself a task for the year but this year I am determined to change this. As I don't think I have ever completed a resolution before, I have decided that, by writing what I wish to achieve by 2016 down here, open for the 7 billion+ habitants on this earth to see, I will feel more inclined to complete them. So, here are 10 things I would like to have accomplished by this very day next year... 1. Get an application for my first choice university course accepted 2. Go to a music festival 3. Pass my driving test 4.  Know all the French tenses taught at AS Level off by heart 5. Learn how to play a Taylor Swift song on the ukulele 6. Stay overnight in a city in the UK that I have never before been to 7.  Go to a nightclub (this can only be completed after 7th December 2015, obviously...) 8. Do at least 1 week's wor...

My Time at Reading Festival!

After picking up my exam results on Thursday, last week, a few of my friends and I jumped in the car and travelled to Reading Festival. You have no idea how long I'd been counting down the days until this event so I was very, very excited. When I was 12, I went to Glastonbury Festival (Under 13's go free!) and that still remains to be one of the best weekends of my life but I hadn't been to a music festival since then so I had mostly forgotten what they're like. Music festivals are phenomenal.  From the second I received my turquoise Reading wristband, to the moment I bid the site farewell, I had an incredible time. Admittedly, before arriving, I had been a little apprehensive of what to expect. I'd been told my previous festival-goers that Reading is full of aggressive, in-your-face people, who clamber into your tent in the middle of the night and steal your sleeping bag with you still inside it. However, this was not the case in the slightest. The majority o...
